Structure of the Degree

Discourse analysis and linguistic variation (Oral discourse analysis in Spanish - Sociolinguistics - Critical analysis of discourse in Spanish) - Instrumental Spanish (Written expression - Oral expression - Applied Linguistics - Specialized uses of the Spanish Language) - History of Spanish Language - Classical Language: (Latin / Greek) - Levels of Spanish Language (Spanish descriptive grammar - Spanish Semantics and Lexicology)

  • Module 4: Spanish Literature and Literary Theories .

Calendar for the Modules:

  • BASIC TRAINING (60 ECTS).

Basic Training (60 ECTS) is during the first and second year and, once completed, it allows students to register in another Grade of the branch of Arts and Humanities (at present, those of English Studies, History and Humanities). An agreement for all Andalusia makes it compulsory to offer a second language (12 ECTS) to be undertaken in a nuclear training.

  • Nuclear Training (162 ECTS).

One of the Regional Requirements in Andalusia is for the Grade in Spanish Philology to contain the modules of ADVANCED MODERN LANGUAGE (12 ECTS, the same language as in the Basic Training) Spanish Language and linguistic theories, and Spanish Literature and Literary Theories.

  • CONTEXTS OF THE GRADE, PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND END OF STUDIES DISSERTATION (18 ECTS).

Globally, it is composed of one cycle of 18 ECTS in which the optional subjects are developed, the external internship (or an alternative subject) and the final dissertation.

  • COMMENTS ABOUT MODERN LANGUAGES.

Students may choose one of the languages offered in the degree (Arabic or English) or any other language in the degrees of the College of Humanities. The degree takes into account that passing the cycle of 24 ECTS comprising the subjects MODERN LANGUAGE and ADVANCED MODERN LANGUAGE enables students to reach a level of instrumental command equivalent to level B2+ of the European Framework.

Prerequisites and Corequisites

The Syllabus may include special conditions required for registration or for studying one or more of its subjects. These conditions are the PREREQUISITES: Subject or group of subjects, called "key" subjects, which must have been studied or passed before.

Adaptation

This link shows the equivalencies between subjects of former syllabi in order to facilitate adaptation of students to the new grade. Application for adaptation of students from the degree mentioned will lead to automatic recognition of all the credits contained in this chart:

Adaptation Procedure

Students from the current 5-Year degree in Spanish Philology may choose from the following options:

1.) Finish the 5-year degree in Spanish Philology, which will progressively disappear, following the calendar in the degree report and the regulation established by the University of Almeria.

2.) Adapt to the new official degree called Grade in Spanish Philology In this case the adaptation chart on this page will apply.

3.) The calendar for termination of the above studies will be implemented gradually. Once each year is terminated, there will be four exam sittings in the following two academic years.
