External internships

These are training activities allowing the students to apply the knowledge acquired during academic training, preparing them for professional activity and facilitating their access to employment.

The possibility of introducing external internships in the degrees has reinforced the commitment of the University with the working capacity of the future graduates, thus enriching the students' training in grade studies, in an environment which offers both them and the training personnel a deeper knowledge about the competences they will require in future. (List of Motives RD 1393/2007)

The University of Almeria, considering the importance of these external internships for the professional development of students, has included them in all grade studies, in order to enable all students to undertake them.

In this degree External Internships comprise 44 Compulsory Credits.

Practicum I with 6 credits.
Practicum II with 6 credits. Prerequisites: to have passed 24 Credits of the previous academic year.
Practicum III with 14 credits. Prerequisites: to have passed 24 Credits of the previous academic year and its External Internship.
Practicum IV with 18 credits. Prerequisites: to have passed 24 Credits of the previous academic year and its External Internship.

Institutions

External Internships are undertaken at non-university teaching centres sustained by public funds of the Regional Government of Andalusia of the province of Almeria.

Regulation and procedure

The possibility of including external internships is explicitly mentioned in the Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, establishing regulations for Official University Studies.

Applicable Regulations:

This Grade degree also derives from the ECI/3857/2007 Order, of 27 December, which establishes the requirements for verification of official university degrees for the Primary Education Teaching profession.

Frame agreement, of 8 January 2010 between the Regional Authority for Education and that of Innovation, Science and Companies of the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Universities of Almeria, Cadiz. Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Internacional de Andalucía, Jaén, Málaga, Pablo de Olavide and Sevilla, for the development of the external internships of university students at teaching centres.

Order of 22 June 1998, regulating External Internships of university students of the Education Science and Psychology colleges in non-university level Teaching Centres (BOJA - REGIONAL OFFICIAL GAZETTE number 88, of 6 August 1998).

Competences of the External Internship (Order ECI/3857/2007):

Acquire a practical knowledge of the classroom and its management. Know and apply interaction and communication procedures in the Classroom, as well as grasp the skills and Social abilities required for fostering an atmosphere which may facilitate learning and cohabitation. Control and follow up the education process, and, particularly, teaching and learning by mastering the necessary techniques and strategies. Relate theory to practice in the reality of the classroom and the centre. Participate in teaching activity and learn how to perform, acting and reflecting from practice. Participate in the proposals for improvement in the different spheres of action that may be established in a centre. Regulate the interaction and communication processes in groups of students aged 6-12 years. Know the ways of colaboration with the different sectors of the education community and the social environment.
